Dear Suze Q. After the marriage, kids, divorce, I went back to fulfill my dream. At 50, I just passed the bar exam and ready to join my brother’s law practice. Everyone, even the clerks, know more than me. My confidantes laugh that I feel like a fraud.
Dear Barrister, Imposter Syndrome is not a mental disorder, nor pathological. It’s a reaction to something where you feel like a fraud because you doubt your own talents/achievements/luck despite evidence. It may occur when you receive an award, promotion, degree and can be associated with low self-esteem, anxiety, or depression. After time passes and you grow into your comfort role of being who others already think you are, you should look back and joke about this time. -SQ
