As a Ph.D. psychologist in real life, I heard stories of love and lust for decades before I personally plunged myself into the world of dating apps. Holy moley, what a bunch of characters travel this cyber highway! I've side-stepped the Fraud Frogs, lusted and loved the Sex Teasers and Fantasizers, and been heart-broken by the FOI/C (loosely rhymes with fuck) -the Fear of Intimacy/Commitment frogs. Still, as I am sure you do too, I bravely frog-march forward on the quest for my ideal companion.
A little disclaimer here. I write under the pseudonym Suze Q. not to be coy but to emphasize that this blog is written about my personal life, from my individual point of view as a sensuous and sexual older woman, with a bit of insight from being a psychologist. Not the other way around. I am not an expert in dating, sex, or men. The only edge that I might have, and I mean might, is my experience in the psych field dealing with personality types AND that I've slogged through on-line dating for six years with lots of cool and yucky stories to share.
On-line dating after the age of 50 is not for the faint of heart. Success and fun relies on role-playing skills, a strong Peter Pan young-at-heart attitude, and a "What the hell. Go for it" determination. I've been on five of the more popular sites for "professionals" looking for my Prince. My little black book of fabulous fucks is teeny-tiny, but my diary of romantic rendezvous and misadventures is vast. Hopefully, Cyber Frogs and Princes: A Memoir will be published in 2024 and I'll share the groovy details from Adam to Woody with all of you.
My intent of this blog is to laugh and learn as we journey together. Let's talk about sex, and relationships, and other stuff. Maybe your musings are not about dating. Maybe they are about who-knows-what that's been on your mind and you'd like another's point of view. I can give you my psychological slant, and others can add their thoughts.
