It’s His Freckles

Dear Suze Q. 3 years ago, well into my late 60s, I joined the on-line Later Daters craze. It was a “what the hell” Hail Mary that paid off. My guy and I are exclusive but don’t live together. After two days, we need a breather from each other that is way different than when I was married. The last thing I see before we turn out the lights, are the freckles across his mocha colored nose and I feel a small rush to my core that he’s a good man and it’s safe to love him. So why do I need distance occasionally?

Dear Mary, Do you want distance or alone-time? Either is fine and normal, but they serve different purposes. Distance is a desire to run from: his agendas, his activities, his chores/duties. Alone-time is running to: your solo hobbies, your peaceful place, your private regrouping. As long as the wonderfulness of time together outweighs everything else, you’re on the right road. -SQ
