Insomnia Caused By iPad?

Dear Suze Q. I alternate between my house and my companion’s. I read a hard-copy book before bed at home and Kindle at his house where it takes me hours to drop into a restful sleep. Could Kindle be the cause?

Dear Restless, Absolutely. Electronic devices (cell phones, tablets, TV, computers) give off “blue light” emissions that go directly through the eyes into the brain and can interrupt your body’s circadian rhythms (sleep cycle) by delaying the natural hormone production of melatonin (that helps promote sleep). Try logging off an hour before sleep, use blue-light-filtering glasses, or adjust your electronics through Settings ➡️ Display & Brightness ➡️ Night Mode (or less/more warm). Or read a physical book where normal amber light reflects off the page and indirectly enters your eyes. -SQ
