Dear Suze Q. I met a woman in my yoga class who’s becoming a fast friend. We have fun talking for hours. Sometimes she totally forgets we have plans, and dismisses it with she lost track of time, forgot to write it down, or some other dufus reason. She jokes that she’s always been that way and basically that I should just get over it. Should I?
Dearie, Best to get over her. For many, the #1 quality people value in others is dependability, whether it be a partner for lasting love or lasting friendship; a worker who’s job performance will earn him a promotion or demotion; or a family member. When you fail to be trustworthy, everything else goes to hell. No reason to think harder about what went wrong, give it a third chance, or concoct any other excuse. Not dependable = nada mas, pas plus, niente piu. Goodbye, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. -SQ
