Dear Suze Q. It’s been 5 years since my wife passed from a long battle with alcohol then liver cancer. She was my life and I almost made a pact in the end to join her. I’ve turned the corner from wanting to die but I think 70 is too old to find another companion. My counselor says I’m ready for dating in baby steps, but I’m terrified.
Dear Terrified, You’ve already made the hardest decisions -to live and to seek a companion. But you took a heavy blow and you’re still fragile. Take those baby steps as long as you need to avoid shunning possible new buddies, or falling in love with a false friend. Go slow so that each day is better than the day before. Learn to love being your own company. When you stumble, and you will, lean on and trust your support team. -SQ
