High Holidays: Easter and 4/20

Dear Suze, I live in California and not religious but enjoy the Easter egg hunt my wife puts on for the grandkids and neighbors. This year Easter falls on 4/20, weed day, that I also enjoy. My wife wants me to smoke in private, but it’s legal, so why should I?

Dear Partier, the obvious answer why you should, is because your wife asked you to. The bigger conversation is, why is she asking. Marijuana is legal in your state and 38 others, and the police code 420 (for m.j.) is obsolete. Some say this date came from Dylan’s “everybody must get stoned” refrain in his song “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35” (12 x 35 = 420). Either way, as with any intoxicating substances around kids, you are a role model and second-hand smoke (of any kind) hurts kids. Although it’s legal, not everyone embraces it yet, so don’t flaunt. Maybe subtle vaping would be acceptable compromise. -SQ
