Dear SQ, my 92-year-old terminally ill grandmother is in chronic pain from cancer. She was deemed mentally competent by 2 physicians and other criteria required by the state of Oregon for “death with dignity.” I appreciate that she, and the government, do not consider this suicide but I’m against it on moral and religious grounds. She’s invited me to attend a margarita party where she will spike hers and within minutes she’ll drop into the Big Sleep.
Dear Against, Then don’t go to her party. Wish her godspeed in your own way, just as she chooses to toast farewell in hers. -SQ
