Dear Suze, My Gen Z daughter (born 1997) grew up computer connected to the world, thinking nothing of traveling anywhere or visiting friends that have moved half way around the world. I hope her generation can save the world, but she’s naive and trusts without verifying. My lesson to her are: invest in quality, do things right the first time, fact checks. I warned her against Temu. Do you agree?
Dear Hope, Temu.com does not meet your standard of quality. This on-line company sells deeply discounted goods mostly shipped directly from the People’s Republic of China. Multiple lawsuits and massive areas of concern include counterfeit and poor quality of products, data privacy violations (🤬), forced labor, and ripping off intellectual property. Some merchants use Temu as a clearing house for their low quality, expired, or outdated products. Some products had alarming levels of harmful chemicals like lead and formaldehyde. Time article in 2022 described complaints of mysterious charges, unresponsive customer service, false ads, undelivered packages. In January 2024, Temu received a Better Business Bureau rating of C+ while many rate it a fail as a reputable company. -SQ
