“Big O” Side Effects

Dear Suze Q. After a fabulous orgasm with my new beau, my whole body developed goosebumps and I shivered like I was freezing. It only lasted a minute and has happened before, but it was weird and awesome for sure. What happened?

Dear Awestruck, Orgasms are wild and wonderfully powerful events! They reduce stress and blood pressure, and increase your life span. How about the beauty of a “sex flush” when your chest turns blotchy red because of dilating blood vessels and vagina walls turn a majestic purple. Goosebumps are sometimes called “skin orgasms” and occur when cold, but also in moments of “awe.” Cool fact: When the teeny-tiny piloerector muscles surrounding each hair follicle on the skin squeezes, the individual hair pops up, and has an erection we call a goosebump! I couldn’t find any research on chills post climax, but maybe our readers can? -SQ
