Dear Suz, Politics are ripping my family apart. Our 18-year-old called her dad an enemy since he supports Trump. Today was very heated when Trump proudly called himself a king even though America was founded because patriots broke away from the rule of the King of England. Trump threatened that Ukraine will never be part of the UN, called Zelensky a dictator, falsely accused him of starting the Ukrainian-Russian war after we all watched the newsreels when Russia invaded Ukraine. I encourage her to talk facts with her dad since he dismisses my views that aligns with hers.
Dear Aligned, There is more here than political disagreements. Expressing that her dad is an enemy is an American right under freedom of speech and hopefully something they can work out. But “dismissing” your views -his wife, committed partner, better half, love of his life is a catastrophic crisis. As a role model to your daughter, you must not tolerate anyone -much less your husband/her father to invalidate and dismiss your feelings. If you’re not important or his equal, why stay in a rotten relationship? -SQ
