Dating with Kids

Dear Suze Q. I’m mid-60s dating a much younger woman with tween boys. Their dad’s not in the picture. We all get along great but she takes every opportunity to do things as a family. I can visualize a life with her but I’ve raised my family and have zero desire to do it again.

Dearie, Knowing yourself makes everything easier. Living together full-time or a traditional marriage is out. Discuss options with her: break-up, casual or exclusive dating, Live Apart Together (LAT) arrangement… Even if casual, the kids will be affected, so tell them only what they need to know -you’re Mommy’s “friend” and she’ll tell them if things change. Kids are astute, don’t lie, and possibly needy for a male role model. Enjoy each day and reassess in a year or so. -SQ
