Dear Suze, Now in my 70s, I’m the one traveling for the holidays to see my kids and grandkids. My hands and feet are swollen after flying, and my stomach is sour after eating. WTF happened?
Dear 70+. Yes, it’s a pisser getting old, especially since science has done a great job to keep us Baby Boomers alive until our mid-80s. Few tips: water retention after flying is caused by cabin pressure changes and normally dissipates after a few days. To minimize swelling, move around on board, stay hydrated, and reduce sodium intake. Sour stomach is your old gut grinding all those holiday goodies. WebMD recommends don’t eat 2-3 hours before bed, sleep on your left side, and use a wedge pillow to elevate your head and neck. I suggest the family come to you and serve bland TV dinners. -SQ
