Redefining Your Relationship

Dear Suze, We’ve been married a long time, and now that the kids are gone, I don’t know what I want. We both work and have separate friends and hobbies. He still expects me to run the household like when there was 5 of us, cooking, cleaning, shopping, laundry… We hired a gardener, and trash is once weekly so he’s free. I’m thinking of a divorce.

Dear Maybe Future Divorcee, That’s a big leap from married a long time, to empty nest but same old chores, to let’s divorce. Big breath needed here, and redivision of chores. This is a pivotal point that happens several times in life. Welcome this opportunity for you and your partner to get crazy and discuss your bucket list and big dream desires, then whittle them down to size and reality. Have some fun together before thinking of separating. -SQ
