National Coming Out Day (NCOD)

Dear Readers, 

October 11, 1988, the United States coined and celebrated this day as an annual observance to celebrate “coming out of the closet” by LGBTQIA+ persons and to live life fully, breaking the chains of silence and ignorance where homophobia thrives. I’m pleased to say that my City of the Angels, Los Angeles, was among the first major cities to recognize this as a national day of safety and inclusivity for all people. More than ever, in these trying times, we must take to heart the principles of the United States Declaration of Independence that declares, “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”  “Imagine all the people living life in peace…” -John Lennon, RIP, 1980 -SQ
