Help for COA (Children of Alcoholics)

Dear Suze, My husband and I identify with your blog about Child of Alcoholics. Both our parents were heavy drinkers and our childhoods left scars. He has trouble trusting anyone, and I have get clingy and fear he'll leave me. Therapy helps us understand our triggers and new, healthy ways to cope.  We used to blame our parents, which only made us righteous victims! Counseling keeps us honest and focused on solving problems. It's saved our marriage.

Dear No Longer Victims. Congrats on identifying your top problems, and working on the solutions. It's easy to blame your parents, and hard to create your own happiness. Fact: Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials' drug of choice, at a consistent 80%, is alcohol (National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 2023). Knowing the cause eliminates the excuse for not solving your problems. If you continue to not work on your problems, blame yourself. -SQ
