That Time Of The Month

Dear Suze Q. I know that women’s sex drive increases when they ovulate, mid-way through the menstrual cycle (when they are most fertile) which has to do with evolution and reproduction of the species. But, I’m in my 60s, well past menopause and I swear I feel increases in sex drive a few days a month more than other times. Is it possible?

Dear 60, Good observation and question. During your child-bearing years, your body had sexual cravings (and attracts mates), highest at mid-menstrual cycle. Your sensitivity to physical sensations peaked; your vaginal discharge changed; your cervix opened and softened during ovulation. So now that you’re no longer ovulating, you’re asking if some residual hormonal changes still occur that increase your sex drive on those days. I don’t know, and I haven’t found any research about this subject. Let us know if you locate information on this cool topic. -SQ
