Parental Controls FOR The Aging

Dear Suze Q. My 78-year-old sister couldn’t find her way home for 3 hours after driving to her local library.  Our family intervention to take away her driver's license didn’t go well. My brother-in-law wants to give her “one more chance” even though he called me to arrange the intervention.

Dear Sis, You could wash your hands and let him handle it, but since he’s included you, give HIM one more chance before giving up. Track her phone. Trading her keys for an Uber/Lyft phone app (which she probably can’t figure out without help) and spin the narrative like it's a gift. Have no illusions; removing her driving privileges is an easy issue compared to others as she ages. Make everybody driving safe. Take away her keys now. -SQ
