Dear Suze Q. My Gen Z granddaughter is hysterical over a guy she’s dating that admitted her was using our family social status to boost his. She called it throning and everyone was doing it. He asked to use my company as a reference for a Wall Street job but I don’t know this kid from Joe the Plumber. Surely, this shallow prick isn’t typical of youth today.
Dear Grandad. In your day, throning was called gold digging, earning recognition/power/advantage simply by association, not by earning it. It was frowned upon then as it is now. These lazy, shallow people don’t want deep connections, just easy street on the backs of others. The opposite weird trend, Shrekking (like the sweet movie), is dating someone below your standards, and who you’re not attracted to, in hopes they’ll treat you well. BS. How today’s young “influencers” advise anti-inclusion and division between class status is appalling. -SQ
