Dear Suze Q. My female boss came on to me and we had a sexual affair. I was flattered, but felt coerced that my job may be on the line if I refused. Now, she wants to reunite with her husband and pretend nothing happened. But it did, and I'm crushed.
Dear Hurt, Unfortunately, your situation is exactly why a person who takes advantage of their position of power over a subordinate in the workplace constitutes "sexual harassment" that can be considered unethical, and perhaps illegal (employment discrimination). Her sexual advances placed you in a position where you were unable to give proper consent because of fear of repercussions. She breached your trust by the imbalance of power in the relationship. Like any painful break-up, confidential, professional help is available (and perhaps without cost through your company). You have the added emotional burden, beyond the normal love loss, of deciding to file a suit against your boss/company -another painful option. -SQ
