Dear Suze, Is it possible to have a platonic relationship? I’ve known my best guy friend since childhood. In our 40s, we were finally single at the same time. We gave the relationship a try and it was awful. Sex was so-so, and his weird habits mushroomed into major irritants. Naturally, he thought it was fabulous and wants to continue our romance. Can we even be friends?
Dear 40 and single, It will be easier if you were solid friends before you saw each other naked and had sex. With time and commitment, you can ease back into talking, joking, and hanging out. But if either secretly strives to be a couple, then friendship built on lies will not survive. Like any relationship, define it (platonic), agree on it, work to make it so. -SQ
