Not Handy = Not Independent

Dear Suze, I’ve been separated for 2 years after marrying young. We’re friendly and still talk. We just grew apart and need to grow separately. We’ve both dated but no winners. We sleep together occasionally because that part of marriage was good and dating sucks. I don’t feel guilty for one second about the booty call, but I’m a bit directionless. 

Dear Lost, Many separated spouses sleep together until one finds a partner. There’s no shame, enjoy. To be independent, what can you do that he used to? Become Ms. Fix-It or a decent cook? Find a back-up driver other than him to take you home from a medical procedure, transport stuff, run an errand. Develop a list of go-to people: computer guy, plumber, mechanic, tax/accountant/financial planner, handyman. Relax, dating is not a sprint. -SQ
