Dear Suz, I went out with a guy that looked good on paper but I knew immediately it was a bust. I lied, awkwardly, that I couldn’t stay because a family issue came up. He suggested we reschedule and I said to call me (where I will avoid him). I feel yucky.
Dear Yucky. You made a mistake, as we all do, so get over it. Ghosting is rude, done by cowards, and should make you feel yucky -don’t do it. This won’t be your last bad date, so get comfortable saying something real to terminate the meeting. Neither of you needs to feel worse than necessary. Rejection is bad enough, so put yourself in the other person’s shoes and say something respectful like, “I’m sorry, but this isn’t working for me.” -SQ
