Dear Suze, I laughed when I read your blog about social chameleons and instantly recognized why I never got along with those ass-kissers. I’m outgoing and polite and I’m never mealy-mouthed about my opinions. People love or hate me, but either way, I’m okay. I realize I’m a strong personality and I’ve learned to tone it down when needed. Never could fit into the corporate world unless I was the president, which I am, lol.
Dear Zebra, People learn (or don’t) to monitor their social behavior to adapt to their surroundings (people or situations). Those who adapt to blend in and be easily accepted anywhere are high self-monitors. Zebras don’t spend much effort in appraising their own behavior or the reaction it causes, because they care more about being consistent, confident with a swagger, and just. Variety makes the world a better place. -SQ
