Death With Dignity

Dear SQ, my questions have nothing to do with elder dating but elder dying. My 96 year-old mother has all of her marbles, but rapid kidney failure. She wants assisted suicide and I’m willing to help. My older brother won’t even talk about it. Mom says she doesn’t want us to argue with her or ourselves, but outside of her presence, we 4 kids, spouses, and adult grandkids are having ugly arguments.

Dear Willing, Agree to Mom’s wishes to not argue. Then, you carry out her wishes to die with dignity. Develop and execute a plan with her healthcare team to do it her way within legal guidelines. Create a plausible story to tell those left behind. Ex: she died peacefully in her sleep of heart and kidney failure. No need to add details. The absolute truth is not necessary. She entrusted you to be her Secret Keeper and this is one of those secrets meant to be carried to the grave. -SQ
