Book Club Picks

Dear Suze Q. Our book club consists of 8 college educated, professional women over 60. 2 are married, and the others are widowed, divorced (a few times), single and dating unhappily and haphazardly, or single and bitching about it. We decided to read something risqué and chose, “I’m Mostly Here to Enjoy Myself: One Woman’s Pursuit of Pleasure in Paris,” by Glynnis MacNicol. Two of our group realized their life has been in a bubble and were shocked by the book and didn’t finish it. The rest had mixed comments, but the wine and camaraderie sparked laughs and sharing some lively tales of our youth. What would be another stimulating book that’s less crude?

Dear Book Club, How about Miranda July’s New York Times bestselling novel, and best book of 2024 by several magazines, “All Fours”? The 45 year-old heroine and writer’s quirky humor and unabashed curiosity about sexual freedom explores the complexities of self-identity as a woman ages, changes and exploration of sexual desire, and human frailties in complex relationships. Not raunchy like MacNicol’s book, “All Fours” should stimulate musings by your ladies of feelings, choices, and dreams for their final act on earth. -SQ
