Dear S.Q. I’m part of the “sandwich generation” where my husband and I both work, care for our aging parents and our kids. Luckily, our parents are healthy enough to provide some daycare to save us all money. Because of Trump, our extended family and friends are struggling with jobs disappearing, cost of living terrifying, and the future bleak. We joke that the hippie communes of the past maybe what we need.
Dear Lucky, The hippie communes of the 1960s and ‘70s and their ultimate failures are well studied. Do your research so you don’t repeat those errors. Many people are buying properties near each other and live within walking distance to friends and family -a mixture of communal and private living. Others are following similar ideas in countries outside the US. The world is your oyster -cultivate it well and harvest yourself a pearl. -SQ
