Dear Suze, I’ve been dating again and I’m shocked how many narcissistic women I’m meeting. I’ve been with one for 6 months and just when I think we’re growing closer -wham, I’m back to walking on eggshells. She says I’m brilliant and wonderful, then I’m blamed and the worst person ever in the next breath. She’s selfish and never sees my point of view or understands my feelings.
Dear Shocked, Narcissism is one of many personality disorders with persistent and inflexible maladaptive behaviors that result in shit relationships. These people are tough as hell to treat, even by specialized professionals. While your gal may not fit the actual diagnosis, she shares a lot of the same behaviors. (True diagnosis is about .05-6.2%). I assume you’ve argued logic with her, suggested professional help, turned yourself inside out to be fair/understand/empathetic/forgiving -all to no avail. What’s left? Continue to slowly go crazy, or walk away. Lots of “normal” women waiting to be dating. -SQ
