Disengage. The Marriage is Over.

Dear Suz,  I've moved on with a new girlfriend that my ex-wife hates, but my 8 and 10 year olds adore.  The micromanaging and interfering from my ex makes me nuts.  She tells me everything the kids do as if we're still married or I'm not capable of talking to the docs, coaches, and teachers myself.  She gets mad when I don't respond.  Has she forgotten that we're not married? I try to be nice so she'll go away but it's not working.  Sign me -Too Nice

Dear Too Nice,  Looks like she's not moved on.  Politely tell her to stop informing you, if that's what you want.  Move your interactions to written (text, emails, try TalkingParents or Our Family Wizard apps).  The problem is you still engage, that allows her to fantasize that you still care.  It's a tough line between being polite and giving the message that it's over.  Become a broken record and keep saying thanks for the info but I don't need it. -SQ
