Why Is It So Hard to Say I Love You?

Dear Suze Q.,  I've dated a guy for over a year and we practically live together.  We're both in our late 60's so I know this is my forever partner.  I think I love him but I can't seem to say the words.  He tells me all the time that he loves me and says he's not bothered that I don't say the same.  What's wrong with me?  Signed, Can't Say the Words

Dear Can't Say,  If you feel the words but can't say them yet, just show your love in your own way.  Older women tend to be more cautious in verbalizing these serious feelings.  When younger, these words led to marriage but at this third stage in life, you know that the end of life is ahead.  What a wonderful opportunity you have to grow old together.  The words I Love You are a validation and emotional caress that he is valued, so if you can't say them, then show them until you can.  --SQ
