Dear S.Q. I can't shake the loss of my wife. People tell me to snap out of it. She's been gone 4 years but everyday I feel raw. Sometimes, I can't eat, or sleep, and don't bother to get out of bed. My sister wants me to see her shrink, but I don't see the point. What's the down-side to ending it all.
Dear Raw. The downside is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. You will end your pain but also any chance to live and be happy again. After thousands of years of scholarly study, many cultures, religions, and laws prohibit taking your own life. Understand why. Try professional assistance rather than a drastic and final end. Emergency help is always available: 911 provides in-person assistance; (call or text) 988 for a National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline; and text HOME to 741741 for a Crisis Text Line. All of these phone services will hook you up to immediate live services. -SQ
