Dear Suze Q., My wife and I are in our 70 and have had a great life. Good marriages, good mine and her kids and grandkids, careers, retirement. To maximize our remaining quality of life, she’s busy with social planning. We’ve agreed to uncluttered. Not just stuff, but useless friendships, obligations. We’ve decided to stop giving a shit about lots of things, and the liberation is fabulous.
Dear Fabulous. Good for you. Be polite in negotiating things you want, ex: haggle for cheaper cruise fares with finesse, not a hammer. Foster positive memories with those you love and screw the rest. In Frank Sinatra’s iconic song, (I Did It) My Way are words of integrity, “…to say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels.” Couple this quality with, “first, do no harm,” and peace be with you. Leaving the world a better place includes choosing when to not give a shit. -SQ
