Dear 70, Nature and nurture determine life span. You were born with some things that shrink your life but can be helped with medical advances (surgery, medicine, prosthetics). But lifestyle is huge. Hearing loss contributors: hunting, motorcycle, machinery/construction, guns -mainly male dominated activities. Health choices like poor diet and lack of exercise shorted life.
Why do men die younger? Only one X (tied to longevity) rather than 2? Females have XX chromosomes and males have XY. Without one X, an animal cannot live. The Y chromosome is not necessary for survival, but necessary for secondary sex characteristics like male genitals (critical for reproduction), and facial hair. Some research suggests longevity is linked to females to ensure the survival of offspring. -SQ
