It's Okay To Quit

Dear Suze Q. The nest is empty after 35 years of marriage and my husband and I are happy as clams most of the time. He still wants to watch TV together, if it's something he wants, but fidgets when it's my turn. We're working it out. But, I've decided I'm done being the chief cook and bottle washer. He'll help grill if I ask, for a while -then I remind him, then just before I nag, I give up. I've read everything and asked everyone for suggestions. I just want someone to tell me it's ok to quit.

Dear Julia, Quitting is definitely okay. Like any behavior you've seriously decided to change, MEAN it, then do it. Don't feel guilty -you've done the job solo for 35 years. Don't feel badly -no one will starve. Breath for a few weeks, order in, eat ramen, eat out. Reassess how you feel in a month after some distance and perspective. -SQ
