Dear Suze Q. I’ve been scammed. A firecracker of a woman from a dating site met me for happy hour. We’d agreed to one drink, then decide if we should go further. After the drink, she ordered some very expensive appetizers. I said I’d already eaten. She said I should try them and she’d split the bill. I laughed that she ordered them, so the bill was all hers. She argued, so I walked to the waiter, paid for my drink, cancelled the order and walked out. Should I have been more patient?
Dear Dater, Scam means defraud someone after gaining their trust, exactly what happened to you. You’ll never know if she was a scam artist or an entitled, spoiled brat, but your response was perfect. The agreed upon rules for the date were clear. She violated them, the bill is on her. -SQ
