Late in Life Allergies

Dear Suze Q. After COVID, I had congestion for months. It wasn’t a cold or flu so the doctors just advised liquids and rest. It eventually went away but I’m left with a stuffy nose during windy and rainy days. The doctors said it could be allergies and to try over-the-counter allergy meds. That helps, but what the hell happened here?

Dear Allergic, Allergies are the weirdest things. They can’t seem to be cured, but they can be treated. On the Bell Curve, they run from mild to severe; emerge early in life or late; are your body's negative reaction to a single, specific item or a zillion non-specific ones. Fast forward medical science 100 years, and maybe this mystery will be solved. -SQ
