Dear S.Q. I never hear the word “fake news” before Trump, who is its king, and spews it like a badge of honor. When Facebook buckled to Trump and no longer fact-checked, I blew a gasket, and barred my kids from using it. Then he banned the Associated Press (AP), further closing off sources of truth. The internet was dangerous before Trump gave all his bad guys white hats that are actually hoods, and turned brother against brother.
Dear Truth Seeker, Liars in power don’t need to tell the truth to maintain power. You are right to worry how to protect your kids when age-old trusted sources are silenced or drown out by conflicting chatter. The internet has some gaping and dangerous flaws, most notably no regulation for requiring the truth. Some news agencies and organizations are leading a fight against fake news.
