Battle Of The Bulge

Dear Suze, I’ve battled weight gain since my 30s. Pasta and bread go straight to my hips so I limit that. Now in my 60s, I gravitate to sweets. The holidays were bad, so I cut back on meals as a trade-off for dessert. My girlfriends have given up the weight fight too, and my husband says he loves me no matter what. Should I quit fighting?

Dear Sweetie, Losing weight as we age is difficult because of decreased muscle mass (try strength training and add high quality protein to your diet), a sedentary lifestyle (use a daily activities log), and still eat stuff that turns to fat not lean ( ⬆️ water, iron, and Vitamins D/B12, ⬇️ night snacks, sodas). Sweet cravings are common because the intense flavor of sugar satisfies shrinking taste buds. If your MD cares about your weight, so should you by figuring out your pros and cons of good AND healthy eating. If your doctor isn’t concerned, bon appetite, cheers, and enjoy la dolce vita. -SQ
