Dear SQ, I’ve made a terrible mistake. The dog we adopted from the shelter isn’t fitting in. She’s old, no longer house-broken, and is too fragile to play roughly. She’s almost blind, so she trips my toddler, then nips him. I’m ashamed about returning her.
Dearie, such a huge task was a noble attempt, but your family’s safety comes first. With simpler problems, most shelters will help train your dog in your home, but returning a pet is not uncommon. Contact the shelter, truthfully explain the issues, and adopt a better fit. -SQ
