Dear Suze, I've been dating a guy for a while but he always stays at my house. I couldn't stand the curiosity so I made him stop by his place when we were in the area so I could pee. I almost wet my pants getting to the bathroom because of the piles of junk all over the place. Stacks of newspaper, and bags and clothes everywhere. He apologized for the "clutter," but gave no other excuse. I'm horrified.
Dear Horrified. He's a hoarder. This disorder which begins in childhood and worsens over time, is often coupled with depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, ADHD, and/or substance abuse. Odds are this won't get better and there's nothing you can do to restore his behavior to normal. Consider strongly if this is a relationship you can live with. -SQ
