We've all had those meet-and-greets where you know within minutes that you've made a terrible mistake. You didn't ask enough questions or vet this person well. Your skin is crawling; the hair at the back of your neck is standing up. Your heart, gut and mind are in agreement with your primitive flight response. All you can think about is getting away, and you're flooded with guilt while scheming how to disappear. Like removing a Band-Aid, do it quickly. Everyone's entitled to a screw-up occasionally. Don't beat yourself up, just learn from it and move on.
