Flashing red lights here! This is a huge category that requires all of your finely-honed sleuth skills. These frogs are a persistent bunch but generally as lame as Wile E. Coyote. You are the road-runner tasked with fouling these devious and crafty colony of frogs. Dating sites urge you to report dishonest men and let the management sort out the details. If you're wrong and they really are good-guys, then no harm, no foul. But if you're right, the powers that be will send you a security message that an investigation is in progress. If your guy in real life gives you the faintest whiff that he's a conman, think no further and run like hell. In my journey, I've encountered two types of Fraud Frogs:
One and Done Fraud Frogs - This guy "love bombs" you. He gushes over your smile/pictures/profile, or asks inane questions like, "Was your father king for a day?" because you are so incredibly beautiful/dazzling/clever. Unfortunately, he is getting married in three weeks to someone that he found on this site but he showed your profile to his brother/boss/friend who is dying to meet you. His subscription to the dating site lapses at midnight/tomorrow, so please don't respond to him on this message board. Instead, he wants you to email his buddy directly. This conman bought his subscription with a stolen credit card and must move you off the dating site to steal your identity and life. If you give this frog your personal information, you've just entered the next level of frog hell which is -->
The Long Con Fraud Frog - This guy, or probably a group of guys acting as one, plays a more complex game. Still not particularly hard to spot, you realize that what he's selling is too good. He tells you everything about himself, flatters you incessantly, but doesn't remember what you've told him. Weeks later he informs you that he has to leave the country briefly and communication will be problematic. Next thing you know, something goes terribly wrong -it's killing him to ask, but he needs you to spot him some money. Not to worry, baby/darling/love of my life. He'll pay you back with 20% interest just as soon as he gets back home. STOP RIGHT THERE, DARLING. You're being scammed.
